2nd wave hits Isro, but aims for December launch of uncrewed mission | India News

BENGALURU: Restrictions on work and movement on account of a raging second wave across multiple states, especially lockdowns in Karnataka and Kerala have hit the functioning of the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro). The space agency had multiple missions planned for this year: Three earth observation satellites one for ocean studies, one remote sensing satellite, a commercial launch one navigation satellite, a science satellite to study the Sun (Aditya-L1), two SSLV (small satellite launch vehicles) mission and the Gaganyaan uncrewed mission. While Aditya will not be happening this year, the lockdown in Karnataka and Kerala and restrictions elsewhere will have an impact on the timelines of the other missions. However, Isro, which has dedicated most of its resources to ensure the uncrewed mission takes off this year as announced in the union budget, is still hopeful of a December launch.

2020: A defining year for Indian space sector 2020: A defining year for Indian space sector Thursday, December 24, 2020 IWK Bureau Even though the year 2020 would be known as Covid-19 year, it could also be termed as the defining year for the Indian space sector to put it in a different orbit with the private sector as a co-traveller of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). As a part of that, the Department of Space (DoS) recently signed an agreement with Chennai based small rocket company Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd to access the facilities and technical expertise available in ISRO centres. According to DoS, this is the first of its kind agreement to be signed after the establishment of Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), the authorisation and regulatory body for enabling private players to undertake space activities in India.
