IUML Workers See a Saviour in Pinarayi Vijayan, Question Party for Poll Debacle Hopping mad at the jumping leader
As the Left Democratic Front led by Pinarayi Vijayan returns to power with a thumping majority, critical voices are gaining momentum inside the Indian Union Muslim League, second largest constituent of the opposition United Democratic Front.
IUML workers are taking en masse to social media to confront the leadership, especially national general secretary P.K Kunhalikkutty. Party leaders too, such as former education minister P.K Abdurrab in a long Facebook post, have criticised the poll strategies it devised in the runup to the election.

The Tamil Nadu election did not throw a surprising result, as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was largely expected to win against the beleaguered and divided All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam . The DMK commanded over a larger alliance of parties, had a comparatively smoother transition of power after the death in 2018 of its historical leader, M Karunanidhi, and led a disciplined campaign that mixed regional and national themes.

The return of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) to the seat of power in Kerala was a foregone conclusion. Its resounding victory for the second consecutive term is an affirmation that people are not averse to choosing the incumbents if they find their leadership responsive, responsible, efficient and effective. Much of the credit for winning a second term for the LDF goes to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the soft-spoken and dynamic leader who galvanized the State Administration ably by handling the crises ranging from Covid pandemic to Nipah or rain-induced deluge and landslide.
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala stands out among India’s major states for the fact that it has more women in the population than men. Add to that the fact that it is India’s most literate state, the logical assumption would be that women will have their place in the sun.
When it comes to electoral representation, however, women in Kerala have been sidelined, a fact that has once more been underlined though the outcome of the latest assembly election which was historic for the fact that it gave a repeat term for the Left Democratic Front.
Unfair to women
India has been discussing a 33 per cent share for women in Parliament for over two decades with that ambition far from being fulfilled. It did not materialise even when the United Progressive Alliance was in power for a decade and a woman – Sonia Gandhi – was the UPA chairperson.
Poll analysis: DMK benefitted from anti-incumbency

Tamil Nadu has witnessed the return of the DMK to the saddle of power after a hiatus of ten years. The party while bagging 133 seats (out of total 234) has ensured victory of Congress candidates on 18 seats. The two communist parties CPI and the CPM which won two seats each and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi with its four seats have taken the DMK-led front’s tally to 159. That DMK was set to capture power at the St. Fort George had become evident during the 2019 Lok Sabha election itself when the DMK alliance made a clean sweep of 38 of the 39 seats from the State. However, AIADMK which performed poorly then seems to have recovered a lot of lost ground as the party won
