The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] on Friday nominated journalist John Brittas and V. Sivadasan, CPI(M) State committee member, as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha election.
Mr. Brittas is currently the managing director of the CPI(M) controlled Kairali Television channel. He also spearheads the channel s political programming and is part of its commentariat.
Mr. Brittas had worked in New Delhi as correspondent of CPI(M) party organ Deshabhimani and later the Kairali television.

Even as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government continues to grapple with the crisis triggered by the resignation of K.T. Jaleel from the Cabinet, the Syro-Malabar church has come up with a demand that the Minorities Welfare Department be handed over to the Chief Minister from the next government onward.
A statement, issued by the Public Relations-Jagratha Samithi of the Changanassery archdiocese, said the demand was being raised after holding a detailed review of the department’s operation under the two previous governments. It further called for steps to ensure transparent and indiscriminate operation of the department under the next government.

Thiruvananthapuram, April 15 : Three days after Kerala Higher Education Minister K.T. Jaleel resigned, Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also has to quit. Incidentally, the case pertains to an appointment made by Jaleel in 2018 when he posted his close relative as general manager in a state-owned corporation. The Lokayukta said that Jaleel has no moral right to continue in office as he has misused his powers and indulged in nepotism.
Chennithala said Vijayan is also a partner in this crime committed by Jaleel as it was in 2013 the then Congress-led UDF government through a cabinet decision had changed the qualifications for the post to which Jaleel appointed his relative.
