View Comments INDIAN RIVER COUNTY  A father and son out on a beach walk discovered a roughly 53-pound bale of cocaine estimated by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration to “conservatively” be worth $1.4 million. An Indian River County Sheriff’s Office deputy said in a report that a white substance in one of the 19 “brick-like,” black packages washed on shore roughly 2 ½ miles south of South Beach Park tested positive for the drug. Altogether, the container weighed 52.8 pounds, while each rectangular brick inside weighed 2.6 pounds, according to the April 28 report. DEA Special Agent Anne-Judith Lambert said that amount could “net approximately $1.4 million at street level in South Florida markets.”

Crash, downed power line at 58th Avenue and College Lane prompts outages, traffic delays

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY  A crash and a downed power line on 58th Avenue prompted traffic delays and power outages at the large intersection west of Vero Beach at State Road 60 late Tuesday afternoon. A trailer carrying yard waste became detached from the pickup truck hauling it and struck the front of a pool company truck in the southbound lanes of 58th Avenue around 2:15 pm at College Lane, an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office deputy said. The area, near Home Depot and Walmart, is a heavily traveled shopping district. Law enforcement officials are considering the crash to be a hit-and-run, and are looking for the pickup that hauled the trailer after it left the crash without stopping, the deputy said.

Highway officials said all four people in the SUV in the morning crash were from Sebastian.
