The Telangana government has successfully secured the requisite permission to deploy drones for faster and and experimental delivery of COVID-19 vaccines.
With nearly 80,000 active COVID-19 cases, a daily count that is growing at an alarming rate, and facing a barrage of criticism over its handling of the COVID-19 crisis, K. Chandrashekhar Rao was one of the first Chief Ministers to announce a free COVID-19 vaccination programme for all residents of a State. The vaccination programme covering all the four crore residents of the State is expected to cost the State government Rs.2,500 crore. Until the end of day on April 30, Telangana had administered 47,59,013 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. But mass vaccine distribution, especially in rural areas, involves logistic difficulties. Hence the experimental delivery of COVID-19 vaccines by drones.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], April 30 (ANI): Department of Personnel Training of the Central government, in its affidavit submitted in Uttarakhand High Court has said that Forest Research Institute, Dehradun is not a recognised institution .
The DoPT has filed the affidavit in the High Court in response to the notice issued by the court in February this year while hearing a petition of Magsaysay Award recipient India Forest Services officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi alleging irregularities and forgery by the centre in the selection process of a member of Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
The affidavit dated April 28, 2021, filed by the secretary, DoPT said, Further, the petitioner (Chaturvedi) did not possess the educational qualification of Post Graduate Degree from a recognized University or Institution.
Strong earthquake jolts Assam
A strong earthquake rocked the northeastern Indian state of Assam on Wednesday morning at 7:51 am local time. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS), India’s agency responsible for monitoring earthquakes via a regional network of seismic stations, determined that the magnitude-6.4 event struck 4.8 miles (7.7 kilometers) northwest of the town of Dhekiajuli and 26.7 miles (43 kilometers) west of Tezpur, a city on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. The NCS reports that the quake ruptured at a depth of 10.5 miles (17 kilometers). The United States Geological Survey and European Mediterranean Seismological Centre both report that the event registered as a magnitude-6.0 earthquake. They calculated this magnitude using teleseismic data collected from stations located more than approximately 620 miles (1000 kilometers) from the quake.

New Delhi: Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2021 is most likely to get postponed amid the COVID-19 crisis.
According to the reports, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced Committee has discussed the possibility of postponing the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Entrance Examination. The exam was scheduled to be held on July 3, 2021.
Speaking to a news agency, JEE Advanced committee officials said, a three-member committee during a meeting on April 27 discussed the prevailing pandemic situation in the country and conducting JEE Advanced on July 3. The panel is of the view that the situation is not conducive to conduct the exam.
