New Delhi, Dec 27: India reported its first case of COVID-19 in the last week of January and scientists have been on the research treadmill ever since, deftly moving from what they were doing to focus on the trajectory and evolution of the fast spreading disease, diagnostics and vaccine development.

While many modified their research to suit COVID-19, others started afresh to cater to the more pressing and immediate demand, beating the pandemic.
One year on, their efforts have paid off with Indian scientists at the forefront of the global fight against the disease despite the constraints of limited funding and available resources.

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Guwahati Friday night as part of three- day visit to Assam & Manipur. Home Minister Amit Shah will formally launch the ruling saffron party s campaign for the 2021 Assam assembly polls on Saturday.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State s Finance, Health and, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP National Vice-President and Assam BJP in-charge Baijayant Jay Panda, state party President Ranjit Kumar Dass received Amit Shah at the airport.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati to begin his two-day visit to Assam and Manipur from Saturday. He is scheduled to preside over party meetings and inaugurate as well as lay the foundation stones for numerous projects in the two states. The Minister s visit which began from Guwahati comes ahead of the Assam assembly elections which will take place next year.
BENGALURU: At a time when the protest against the central government’s three new farm laws is getting support from various quarters across the globe, a group of academicians from top institutions in the country has written to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) supporting the legislations.
In the letter written early last week, the academicians say “this moment should not be missed”. The letter reads: “This is a golden opportunity for reforms, which have been eluding agriculture since the industrial reform in 1991. We are convinced that the moment has arrived for agriculture and if these reforms are missed, agriculture will have no future in India.”
