The Michigan Department of Transportation will be resurfacing 3.7 miles of US-12 and making improvements to two Grand Elk Railroad crossings. The $972,000 investment includes milling and resurfacing, sidewalk ramp upgrades, and new pavement markings on US-12 from the Grand Elk Railroad to Fairview Drive. Work also will include improvements to the US-12 and US-131 Grand Elk Railroad crossings.
SAFETY BENEFITS:
This project will improve safety and ride quality for motorists, increase safety and accessibility for pedestrians, and extend the life of the roadway.
TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:
Railroad crossing work will require short-term total closures and posted detours.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced a 3.7 mile stretch of US-12 will undergo resurfacing and railroad crossing repairs that will begin on Monday.
This $972,000 investment includes milling and resurfacing, sidewalk ramp upgrades, and new pavement markings on US-12 from the Grand Elk Railroad to Fairview Drive.
The project will also include improvements to the US-12 and US-131 Grand Elk Railroad crossings.
MDOT says these repairs will improve the safety measures and travel quality for drivers, add more safe accessibility for pedestrians and extend the life of the roadway.
Tools stolen from White Pigeon Sanitary System

WHITE PIGEON, Mich. â Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a breaking and entering case at the White Pigeon Sanitary System, according to a news release Friday.
Itâs on the 1600 block of Indian Prairie Road in White Pigeon Township in St. Joseph County.
The incident happened between 6 and 8:30 p.m. this past Monday.
MSP says the individual responsible arrived on a black sports bike and stole tools belonging to the White Pigeon Sanitary System.

St. Joseph County officials are expected to decide whether to offer the county’s strong credit rating to support a major sewer-system project in White Pigeon Township.
At their executive committee meeting Wednesday, commissioners received an update from engineer Ken Jones, on behalf of the White Pigeon sewer authority. He said the county’s involvement would help the White Pigeon agency secure an interest rate much more attractive than what it would secure on its own.
“The best way for the township and the village – who are the owners of the White Pigeon sewer system – to fund the project is to partner with the county to issue a bond,” he said. “In most cases, our ability to get a reasonable interest without the full faith and credit of the county would be pretty counterproductive. Our interest rate would be much higher than what we think we’re going to receive by partnering with the county.”
