WASHINGTON US President Joe Biden on Monday promised to support India hit hard by COVID-19 in a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the White House said.
Biden pledged America s steadfast support for the people of India who have been impacted by the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, the White House said in a statement.
The United States is providing India with a range of emergency assistance, including oxygen-related supplies, vaccine materials, and therapeutics, said the statement.
The phone call between the two leaders came amid mounting pressure for the Biden administration to lend a hand to India.

WASHINGTON â President Joe Bidenâs administration is ramping up assistance to India to help it fight what in recent weeks has become the worldâs worst coronavirus flare-up, but not, as of yet, with finished, ready-to-use vaccines, officials said Monday.
TORONTO â The government of Ontario will be getting help from Canadaâs military in dealing with a surge of coronavirus infections, while several other Canadian provinces are tightening health restrictions in hopes of avoiding a similar situation.
Ontarioâs solicitor general says resources are coming from the Canadian armed forces and the Canadian Red Cross.
