Published: 31 May 2021 PHILIPSBURG: - Sint Maarten s first SXM Best Shopping Week is slated for July 26th to August 1st. This was announced today by the organizers. SXM Best Shopping Week is an expansion of the successful SXM Best Weekend that traditionally accompanies the yearly Oualichi Festival. SXM Best Weekend over the years attracted a loyal and broad fan base of shoppers from the region, Europe, and the United States. The event will be marketed both on the island as well as in the aforementioned regions. Like the famed weekend, its weeklong successor will present a cornucopia of discounts in many of St Maarten s stores. By organizing the annual event in July, organizers aim to make St Maarten the best-visited island in the region in the long run in that month.

Published: 19 April 2021 PHILIPSBURG: - As part of the country’s economic recovery efforts, representatives of the Ministries of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT) and the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), recently held a virtual meeting with a majority of the tourism industry’s stakeholders to discuss how to further profile the importance of the country’s vaccination campaign, the latter, seen as a key instrument in the further economic recovery of the nation. The goal is to vaccinate at least 70% of the local population by June 1st in order to achieve what epidemiologists refer to as “herd immunity,” i.e., where a sufficient number of people in a community become immune to an infectious disease.

Published: 08 March 2021 PHILIPSBURG(DCOMM): - Women’s Desk, a division within Community Development, Family & Humanitarian Affairs (CDFHA) from the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA) in collaboration with Prominent Women, honored 20 women on March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) who have done exemplary work in the community especially during the COVID – 19 lockdown. The #ChooseToChallenge event was empowering, filled with laughter and cheer, enjoyed by all, and was well attended. Considering the COVID-19 guidelines, the celebration was somewhat restricted/downscaled in an attempt to conduct the event efficiently as possible. As such the following women were honored in the presence of the Minister of VSA, Richard Panneflek, a few guests, and the organizing committee.
