WASHINGTON, April 30 (KUNA) Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken affirmed on Friday the strength of US-India relations in face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A statement by the Department Spokesperson Ned Price said Blinken spoke with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar today to reaffirm the strength of the U.S.-India partnership in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Expressing his appreciation for Indian assistance in America s time of need, Secretary Blinken reviewed comprehensive ongoing U.S. government efforts in support of the Indian government s COVID-19 response operations.
Price added, He (Blinken) also noted the outpouring of support from U.S. industries, non-governmental institutions, and private citizens for COVID-19 relief efforts in India.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan visited Maldives to discuss
COVID-19 and the global economic recovery, trade and investment links, and collaboration on education, climate change and environmental challenges.
Mr Tehan met with Speaker of the People’s Majlis and former President Mohamed Nasheed, and participated in a roundtable with ministerial counterparts covering economic development, tourism, and higher education.
Australia and Maldives share a commitment to ensuring a stable and prosperous Indo Pacific region. The Minister’s discussions followed recent visits to Maldives by then-US Secretary of State Pompeo and Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.
Pakistan offers assistance to India to deal with COVID-19 crisis
Pakistan late Saturday night offered medical assistance to neighboring India, which is battling with one of the worst coronavirus crises in the world.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in a Twitter post, On behalf of the people of Pakistan, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to the affected families in India and, as a gesture of solidarity with them, Pakistan offered to provide ventilators, digital X-ray machines and personal protective equipment.
The archrival neighbors have had very tense ties since August 2019 when India annexed its portion of the disputed territory of Kashmir.
