Indiana unveils next phases of vaccine eligibility

Feb 11, 2021 / 03:25 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) State health officials revealed Wednesday the next groups of Hoosiers who will be eligible to get the vaccine. Once they get the vaccine, it will address the groups connected to 98% of Hoosier deaths because of COVID-19. Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 52 more Hoosier deaths from the coronavirus, for a total of 11,578. No one is sure when the vaccinations will happen for Hoosiers age 60 to 64, the next group to be eligible once vaccine supplies are available. But for the first time, officials said Wednesday, the group that follows will include age 50 and older as well as Hoosiers with higher-risk factors.

Community Hospital North is seeing a baby boom and it’s not expected to go away anytime soon. But doctors are also seeing an uptick in complications. For six years running, Community Hospital North has delivered more babies than any other hospital in Indiana. Last month, they saw a 30% increase in births over last January. Jamison Hoover, just 2 days old, will have quite the story to tell his kids one day. “He was a surprise,” said his mother, Victoria Hoover. “COVID baby,” added his father, Keegan Hoover.

And something she says she’s heard too many times already. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced last week that a man who’d been detained at the privately run Stewart Detention Center in South Georgia died after contracting coronavirus. The 57-year-old, identified by Mexican authorities as Félix Montes de Oca Marcelino, had been hospitalized for weeks when he died in Columbus, Georgia, on Jan. 30.
