Press Release by Indiana State Police at 3:55 P.M.
(Columbia City, IN)- This morning at approximately 9:00am, officers from multiple police agencies and fire departments responded to a reported building explosion at 515 N. Line St, Columbia City, IN. Arriving first responders found a warehouse structure located on this property fully engulfed in flames. Â
During the initial response, there were reportedly three adults in or around the building at the time of the initial explosion. Two of those adults were able to escape the building with only minor injury. One adult male remained trapped inside and was unable to be rescued due to the size and nature of the fire. There was significant damage to several adjacent business and residential structures to the south and west of the warehouse. Â

Crosses US 27 to get to wedding reception

A 4-year-old girl running across U.S. 27 near Berne on Friday afternoon died after being hit by a car.
Barbara JC Graber crossed the highway with two other children at the intersection at County Road 350 South. They were attending an Amish wedding at a residence on the northeast corner of the intersection and heading toward the reception on the southwest corner, according to a release from Indiana State Police s Fort Wayne post.
Graber was transported to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. The other two children she was with were not hurt.

FWPD dealing with barricaded suspect

A man was taken into custody after police were at the scene of a barricaded person on South Wayne Avenue.
Sgt. Brian Walker, public information officer for the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post, said the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was attempting to serve a search warrant at 2436 South Wayne Ave.
The homeowner let officers inside, but the officers heard someone loading a gun, Walker said.
Fort Wayne officers were called about 10:30 a.m. and have been trying to get the person inside to come out. He was later taken into custody
