SmartFinancial, Inc. announces acquisition of Sevier County Bancshares, Inc.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., April 14, 2021 – SmartFinancial, Inc., (Nasdaq: SMBK) (“SmartFinancial”), parent company of SmartBank, and Sevier County Bancshares, Inc., (“SCB”), parent company of Sevier County Bank, jointly announced today their entry into an agreement and plan of merger pursuant to which SmartFinancial will acquire SCB.
As of December 31, 2020, SCB had approximately $424 million of total assets, $381 million in deposits, and $243 million in net loans with six branches in Sevier County, Tennessee and one branch in Richmond, Virginia. Students attending Shippensburg or any of the other 13 state universities next year will pay the same tuition and technology fee that first-year students two years ago paid.

For the third consecutive year, Pennsylvania’s 14 state-owned universities are holding the line on tuition.
The State System of Higher Education’s governing board voted unanimously on Thursday to freeze tuition and the systemwide technology fee at the 2019-20 levels.
Despite the financial woes facing the state universities prompting some radical changes and pleas from university presidents for at least a 1% increase, the board’s decision will mean students will pay the same amount in tuition next fall as upperclassmen paid this year and last year.

Mansfield University President Charles Patterson will take on a second role in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education this summer by serving as interim president at Shippensburg University.
Patterson is being tapped to fill the presidency being vacated by Laurie Carter, who has served in that position for nearly four years. She is leaving to become president of Lawrence University in Wisconsin, effective July 1.
