Major project begins at Y-12 to shrink high-security footprint
Oak Ridge, Tenn. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC, officials broke ground on the West End Protected Area Reduction project (WEPAR) at Y-12 National Security Complex, which, when completed, will reduce the size of the high-security protected area on the site by approximately 50%. The project supports efforts to modernize Y-12’s high-security boundary and includes the installation of new sections on the perimeter intrusion, detection, and assessment system (PIDAS) as well as a new entry control facility.

As elementary and high schools plot strategies to combat lost learning over the pandemic year, colleges and universities across the region are preparing to support a freshman class unlike any they have ever welcomed.
Thousands of high school students poised to attend college next fall likely will be stepping out to a new community after a year of remote or hybrid learning that provided only minimal interaction with teachers and peers. Experts suspect that, alone, will put many slightly behind their peers from prior years.
Manassas Park names new schools superintendent Saunders
Dr. Melissa Saunders was appointed as the next superintendent of Manassas Park City Schools at tonight’s school board meeting.
She’ll start her new job on July 1. She comes from neighboring Manassas, where, since 2016, she has worked as the executive director of student achievement for Manassas City Public Schools.
Saunders has 28 years of experience working in public education. She’s worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director of curriculum and instruction in Loudoun County and in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
