LINCOLN, Maine — Deborah Kathleen Argast (née Hanson) of Lincoln, Maine, died on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, after an eight-month war with pancreatic cancer. Family was close by her side.

I’ve writtenrecently about the pandemic-driven teaching innovations that professors want to keep even after campus life returns to normal. That includes such things as a flexible syllabus and making more of an effort to connect with students. So it was nice to hear from a reader that many of those changes are also things that students want to keep.

Amy Katherine Larko and Blake Falanga, best friends since seventh grade, made a pact in 2011, the beginning of senior year at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill. If neither was seeing anyone seriously they would go to the senior prom together.
“I met a girl today,” Mr. Falanga told his mother four years earlier after junior high school one day. “Her name is Amy.”
