London – The Duke of Sussex has accepted an apology and “substantial damages” from the publishers of the Mail on Sunday and Mail Online over claims he “turned his back” on the Royal Marines.
Two articles alleged Prince Harry had not been in touch with the Marines after stepping down as a senior royal.
In a statement to the High Court, a lawyer for Harry called the allegation “baseless, false and defamatory”.
He will donate the damages to the Invictus Games Foundation, she said.
Harry sued Associated Newspapers for libel over two “almost identical” articles published in the newspaper and online last October.

When Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014, it marked a significant milestone for the royal. Having served in the army himself, Harry came up with the idea of a sporting event for wounded, sick or injured armed services personnel and veterans to help them ‘find the motivation to move on and not be defined by their injuries’. As the Invictus Games Foundation website relates: ‘The word “invictus’ means ‘unconquered”… The Games harness the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country.’
Dustin Diamond has died. He was just 44.
Diamond had stage-four lung cancer, and after the news broke just last month, his condition had rapidly worsened in the past week. According to TMZ, his girlfriend was at his side when he passed. He did not have any children.
In a statement, his team said, “Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful.”

Prince Harry has announced that his Invictus Games have been postponed once again due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
