CLEVELAND, Ohio This time last year, the small but dedicated team at the Cleveland International Film Festival was busy, trying to figure out a way to keep the popular 44th annual event alive after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled all large in-person gatherings just two weeks before opening night.
Cleveland International Film Festival announces recipients of DReam Catcher, Groundbreaker awards

The 45th Cleveland International Film Festival has announced the recipients of one award it launched in 2019 and another that s new for this year, as well as details of programs surrounding the work of the honorees.
New for 2021 is the Groundbreaker Program and the Groundbreaker Award, which the film festival said in a news release stem from CIFF44 s Focus 2020: Racial Equity Program.
CIFF said the Groundbreaker Program, sponsored by Case Western Reserve University, will not only educate our audience and community about structural racism, but also it will elevate and support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) filmmakers. It will offer a number of feature and short films during the upcoming virtual festival running April 7-20, which is known as CIFF45 S

MDIs and CDFIs provide vital financial services in communities that are often underserved. In order to provide this necessary funding to underrepresented communities, many MDIs and CDFIs need additional capital themselves.
These new initiatives are focused on strengthening minority-owned and diverse-led financial institutions by providing additional access to capital, connections to institutional investors, specialty support for Black-led commercial projects and mentorship and training opportunities.
