07:40 EDT, 11 December 2020 17 shares Arsonists torched two cars at the home of Derek Hatton - the former Liverpool council deputy arrested alongside city mayor Joe Anderson in a corruption probe - police have revealed. A Mercedes and a Range Rover were badly damaged in the fire in Aigburth, Liverpool, which took place some four months before the sensational arrests last week. Two fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze, which investigators believe was started deliberately, at around 12.15am on August 2 near Sefton Park in the city.  A joint investigation by police and fire service found that accelerant was used in the attack. Nobody was injured.

The ECHO understands the incident happened at the home of Mr Hatton in Aigburth. A Range Rover Mr Hatton was often seen driving around Liverpool was badly damaged in the blaze. The emergency services were called out to the private address near Sefton Park at around 12.15am on August 2 this year, following reports of suspected arson. The fire service confirmed they sent two engines to the blaze.
