Himachal court stays tree felling permissions

Shimla, May 4 : Hearing a petition on illegal felling of trees within the municipal jurisdictions of the state capital, the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday stayed all permissions of felling or lopping of trees, except the permissions granted to the state Electricity Department.
A division bench of Chief Justice L. Narayana Swamy and Justice Anoop Chitkara passed the order on a petition treating it as public interest litigation.
The petitioner highlighted the issue of illegal felling of green trees by violating provisions of the Forest Conservation Act and the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act and also violating directions passed by various courts.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], February 23 (ANI): The Cabinet has decided to amend the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act and the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Elections Rules for conducting elections on party symbols and provision of reservation for OBCs and disqualification on grounds of defection.
The State Cabinet in its meeting held here on Tuesday under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur decided to carry out amendments in Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 and Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Elections Rules, 2012, according to an official release by the state government.

Shimla, Feb 23 : The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday decided to carry out amendments for conducting elections to the municipal corporations on party symbols, to provide reservation and making provision for disqualification on grounds of defection.
For this, it decided to amend the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act of 1994 and the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Elections Rules of 2012.
It also gave approval to provide government land on lease in Paonta Sahib tehsil in Sirmaur district to the Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry for establishing a regional horticulture research and training station.
