WORTHINGTON College sophomores currently sweating about which major to declare can relax: Their choice won’t necessarily dictate their life’s path.
Just ask Sandi Mead, a Worthington native who is preparing to wrap up a 41-year career as a librarian later this spring.
“I graduated from Worthington High School in 1971, then earned a liberal arts degree at Worthington State Junior College [now Minnesota West Community and Technical College],” Mead said.
Newark Free Lunch Program issues call for help
Wayne Post
Before the pandemic, the Newark Free Lunch Program provided over 7,800 meals annually at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. The basement dining room was forced to close last March, so volunteers prepared grab-and-go lunches that were handed out at the door.
The number of lunches given out went up due to unemployment. In the past year, volunteers handed out 22,205 lunches. This included 162 Thanksgiving dinners and 158 Christmas dinners. Mostly adults received meals in the past, but there was an increase in the number of families with children needing lunch during the pandemic.
“This volume has devastated our budget and we need some financial help,” managers Manny and Alice Crespo said. “In the last 28 years, we have never turned anyone away and we do not want to turn anyone away now.”

Barbara Ellen Dyche McKee, as a dedicated mother first and foremost, it is only fitting that Barbara Ellen Dyche McKee, (Barb) 78 peacefully pass away, at home, on Feb. 5, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family.
Barb was born in Martinsburg, WV in 1942 to the late Winfred H. Dyche and Ellen Christina Brant Dyche. On Feb. 6, 1971 she married the love of her life, Michael Allen “Mick” McKee who preceded her in death in 2008. There is comfort in knowing Barb and Mick are celebrating what would have been their 50th anniversary together for eternity.
Barb attended Martinsburg High School (class of 1960) where she was the lead majorette and involved in school organizations. She continued her education at Shepherd College, prior to working at Potomac Edison until the birth of their daughter, Alyson, when she dedicated her life to her most valued job, being a mother and wife. Barb resided in Maugansville, MD where she was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist
