Almost a week after Penn-Trafford closed its stadium to the public, the facility has reopened.
According to a release from the district, Warrior Stadium reopened Wednesday after being shuttered due to recent incidents in which visitors took snow shovels to the field, which can potentially damage the turf by ripping the seams or the turf itself.
District officials, who had to wait for clear weather to inspect the field, said no extensive damage was done to the turf in the incidents. Any minor issues that may arise can be fixed through routine maintenance.
School officials made the decision to close the field, which is typically kept open for public use when school activities are not scheduled, on Friday after someone attempted to shovel snow off the turf three times last month. Athletic Director Kerry Hetrick said it was not clear who attempted to shovel snow off the field or why they were doing it.
