Kalamazoo Water Dept eyeing various funding options for lead service line replacements

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Kalamazoo’s Water Department is about to embark on its largest effort yet to make sure there is no lead in local water supplies. They are working to replace all the lead service lines in northern areas of the city as well as a large portion of Kalamazoo Township. They will be asking for $20-million from the State’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund. Director Jim Baker says they are also scanning the horizon for other possible funding sources. “We’ve all heard about the Governor’s water infrastructure water program. We’ll also be reaching out to Congressman Fred Upton’s office.”
