The work-from-home phenomenon has triggered a fresh frustration for US corporations: Americans are blowing the whistle on their employers like never before.
The proof is in the data, with the US Securities and Exchange Commission receiving 6900 tips alleging white-collar malfeasance in the fiscal year ended September 30, a 31 per cent jump from the previous 12-month record.
Since the pandemic hit the U.S., the Securities and Exchange Commission has paid out some $330 million in awards,
Officials at the agency, which pays whistle-blowers for information that leads to successful investigations, say the surge really started gaining traction in March when COVID-19 forced millions to relocate to their sofas from office cubicles.
Marc Berger, who has served as acting director of the Division of Enforcement at the SEC for a few short weeks, will leave the agency later this month.
