COLOMBO (News 1st): The cyclonic storm “YAAS” located in East-central Bay of Bengal is expected to be intensified into a severe cyclonic storm during the next few hours, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at the Department of Meteorology said on Monday (May 24).
“Under the influence of this system, winds over the island and rainy condition in South-Western part, (that is the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces) is expected to enhance from Tuesday (May 25) to Thursday (May 27),” the Advisory for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds noted.
Accordingly, the rain forecast for the next 03 days is as follows:

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at the Department of Meteorology on Thursday (May 20) issued an advisory for the formation of a Low-Pressure Area in the East Central Bay of Bengal.
“A low-pressure area is very likely to form over North Andaman Sea and adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal sometime on the 22nd of May. It is very likely to intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm during subsequent 72 hours,” the advisory noted.
The showery condition over the South-western part of the island, that is the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces, and the windy condition over Northern and North-Western provinces are likely to enhance during the next few days, the Department of Meteorology said in its weather advisory issued on Thursday (May 20).
