44-Year-Old Homeless Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing in Long Beach

By City News Service May 10, 2021 LONG BEACH (CNS) - A murder charge was filed today against a 44-year-old homeless man accused in the stabbing death of a fellow transient last October in Long Beach. Charles Ray Jones is accused of killing of 41-year-old Nilton Cardoso, who was attacked in the area of Ocean Boulevard and The Promenade North at about 8:50 p.m. Oct. 6, according to Long Beach police. Officers arrived at the scene and found Cardoso being treated by paramedics for multiple stab wounds to his chest. Cardoso died at a hospital. Detectives uncovered evidence linking Jones to the stabbing, according to an LBPD statement. The investigation also revealed that Jones and Cardoso knew each other, and the stabbing may have stemmed from a dispute, police said.

According to Fox 11, the suspect was recently charged in the stabbing murder of a woman in the weeks after the state canceled his parole conditions. “Court documents obtained by FOX 11 reveal that 67-year-old Eddie Allen Harris has been charged with the Mar. 23 stabbing murder of a woman in south Los Angeles,” the outlet said. According to LAPD, officers responded to E. 59th Place & South Main Street in south Los Angeles at around 5:30 a.m., where they found a deceased Black woman in an alley with lacerations across her body. Jail records show that Harris was arrested for the murder on April 8, and is currently in jail with a $2 million bond.
