CHESANING, MI John R. Neitling did not want to return to jail, a sentiment he repeatedly told his fiancée since their last stint behind bars on methamphetamine charges.
Before the sun rose on a bitter January morning, Neitling would prove his resolve to never again be incarcerated. As law enforcement gathered outside his Chesaning apartment to serve their latest warrant in a search for meth, Neitling smashed a hole in his wall, pointed an apparent gun through it, and cursed police.

CHESANING, MI Officials are continuing to investigate a police-involved shooting that left a Chesaning man dead at his home, though they are keeping details close to their vest.
“The lead investigator is looking to send the report to the prosecutor in the next week or two,” Michigan State Police Lt. Lizabeth Rich said. “They are still waiting on some reports.”
Detectives from the MSP Second District Investigative Response Team are investigating the shooting.

CHESANING, MI A police-involved shooting has resulted in the death of a Chesaning man.
About 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, members of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team were serving a high-risk search warrant on a home in the 400 block of East Broad Street. The EST was serving the warrant on behalf of the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, or BAYANET, according to MSP.
