TRCI outbreak helps drive Umatilla County s COVID-19 deaths

Three inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 in the ongoing outbreak at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla died over the weekend, according to press releases from the Oregon Department of Corrections, bringing the death toll among adults in custody at the prison to seven since January began. The first two inmates who died over the weekend were between 75 to 85 years old and died on Saturday, Jan. 16, the press releases said. The third was between 55 and 65 and died on Sunday, Jan. 17. Each died at a local hospital. A few days earlier, the deaths of two other TRCI inmates with COVID-19 were announced. One is a man between 70 and 80 years old who passed away at a local hospital on Sunday, Jan. 10, according to a press release from ODOC. The second who died after testing positive was a man between 65 and 75 years old. He died at a local hospital on Thursday, Jan. 14.

Oregon reports 1,173 new COVID-19 cases, 41 new deaths

The Register-Guard Oregon reported 41 new COVID-19-related deaths Saturday, raising the state’s death toll to 1,799. The Oregon Health Authority also reported 1,173 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 132,412. Vaccinations in Oregon On Saturday, OHA reported that 16,117 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations were added to the state immunization registry. Of this total, 11,332 vaccine doses were administered on Jan. 15. Oregon now has administered a cumulative total of 189,190 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. To date, 335,075 doses of vaccine have been delivered to sites across Oregon. COVID-19 hospitalizations The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 365, which is 22 fewer than Friday. There are 92 COVID-19 patients in intensive-care unit beds, which is five fewer than Friday.
