The new measures against covid19 announced by the Prime Minister did not surprise people on the streets of Port of Spain on Monday afternoon.
Moments after Dr Rowley, in a press conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann s, announced the closure of more retail businesses to reduce high concentrations of people, several shoppers consulted by Newsday on Charlotte St, Port of Spain, said they agreed.
Andre Sanford said: It s a good idea to close a little more because that guarantees fewer people on the streets.
Hinds to UNC: Government abandoned no one in pandemic

NATIONAL Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds on Tuesday rejected Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar s claims that Government abandoned vulnerable people during the covid19 pandemic.
In a post on his Facebook page, Hinds said, Given the fact that the country’s economic circumstances are seriously challenging, the Opposition Leader bombards us with dotish talk about the Government locking down and abandoning little people.
Hinds said on Monday, during a news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann s, public health officials pointed to a serious threat (of) our health system being overwhelmed. He said this was based on the projections are that the number of covid19 infections could double in a matter of weeks in TT given our bad, reckless and sometimes downright foolish behavior.
Kamla: PM locks out the vulnerable

OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday accused the Prime Minister of locking out the vulnerable people in TT, with the latest covid19 restrictions announced at a news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann s. In a statement, Persad-Bissessar said, The Opposition supports measures to protect the health and wellbeing of citizens, but we cannot support hundreds of thousands being left without the ability to take care of their families.
She claimed that while Government has found money to pay millions of dollars in rent to the families of Cabinet ministers and finance contracts of the families of other senior ministers, they do not have a single dollar to help the taxpayers of this nation during their time of need.
PM to host press conference on Monday

FOR the second time in four days, Prime Minister Dr Rowley will face the nation when he hosts a press conference on Monday.
What he will announce is anyone s guess, but it is a safe bet he will be discussing the covid19 pandemic from a TT perspective.
In confirming this press conference, scheduled for 2 pm at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann s, a press release issued by the Office of the Prime Minister on Sunday indicated that the Prime Minister will also be joined by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds at Monday s press briefing.
China promises to help Trinidad and Tobago with covid19 vaccines

A virtual meeting on Tuesday between the Prime Minister and China President Xi Jinping set the stage for Trinidad and Tobago to receive covid19 vaccines from China, amid uncertainties over other sources of vaccines.
A statement by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said Dr Rowley received a call from Xi via teleconference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann s. The office said their discussions centred on several matters of mutual interest.
