‘Sacking’ the General Bureaucratic controls
How our politico-bureaucratic dispensation hates the military has numerous examples. When General VK Singh was the serving Army Chief, fodder-eating Lalu Prasad Yadav, referring to him, snapped his fingers and said
isko masal dena chahiye - squash him! Later under pressure he apologized to the General privately but avoided a public apology.
At a seminar at the IAS academy in Mussoorie some years ago, Major General Ian Cardozo, noting the diatribe against our military by former diplomat TCA Raghavan asked him, ``Do you hate us?” His immediate response was, “Of course we do. Don’t you know it?” Possibly Raghavan slept under his cot during his two-year tenure at Islamabad as High Commissioner fearing the Pakistani military.
The Vaccine War The Centre passes the buck to the states.
It is becoming increasingly evident that fighting a two-front war will not be difficult for us. After all we are fighting a four-front war today – with China in Ladakh, the pandemic war, oxygen war and the vaccine war.
The adroitness shown by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) is so remarkable that in case the Wuhan Virus succeeds in getting the entire Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) into ICU, the MOHFW can easily take on the diplomatic functions, especially the obfuscation part.
To ease the acute shortage of vaccines, the gap between two Covishield jabs was first raised from 28 days to between 6 to 8 weeks. But now the new letter issued by MOHFW on May 13 has raised the gap to between 12 to 16 weeks. Yes, yes it is all on ‘scientific advice’ but who are we fooling Mr Yes Minister?

NEW DELHI: In a move that has raised eyebrows in military circles, the commandant of the Army Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment, which has been converted into a large Covid facility for soldiers, has been abruptly transferred out barely three months before his retirement.
The Army, however, called the posting of Major General Vasu Vardhan as an additional officer to the Army Hospital (R&R) a routine transfer after an 18-month tenure as the Base Hospital commandant.
Major General SK Singh, who was posted as the deputy commandant of the Army Medical Corps Centre and College in Lucknow, has been appointed the new commandant of the Base Hospital, as per the order issued on May 10.
