RAWALPINDI: Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid on Saturday said the top civil and military leadership was striving to bring both the Afghan government and the Taliban back to the table to ensure long-lasting peace in Afghanistan.
Addressing a gathering, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and the Foreign Office were making all-out efforts in that regard. He said that Pakistan wanted peace in Afghanistan, adding: “Whatever the people of Afghanistan decide, we will accept.” The minister categorically said Pakistan would not allow any country to use its land for disrupting regional peace.

RAWALPINDI: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday hinted that relations between the government and opposition would improve after the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections scheduled for July 25.
“The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government led by Imran Khan will complete its term and the statements of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and his visit to the United States would have no impact on its tenure,” Mr Ahmed said while addressing a public meeting on Tipu Road in connection with the upcoming AJK polls.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday appointed Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) chief Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti as his Special Assistant (SAPM), a move seen as laying the groundwork for initiating a dialogue with the ‘angry’ Baloch elements.
Bugti, a member of the National Assembly from NA-259, Dera Bugti-cum-Kohlu-cum-Barkhan-cum-Sibbi-cum-Lehri, had been appointed as the SAPM on Reconciliation and Harmony in Balochistan, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.
The appointment of Bugti, a grandson of former Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, is part of major changes in the province announced on Wednesday, which included the replacement of Governor Amanullah Yasinzai with Zahoor Agha.

MPs’ panels to discuss situation emerging after US pullout from Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary panels of the National Assembly and Senate are separately taking up the burning issue of Afghanistan and the impact of the withdrawal of US troops from the neighbouring country on Pakistan and the region.
The National Assembly standing committee on foreign affairs holds an in-camera session on July 8. It will discuss and will be briefed on the assessment of the current situation in Afghanistan; the impact of the US announcement of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan; the status of the reconciliation offered by ex-ambassador Muhammad Sadiq; and Islamabad’s concerns over the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
