Fire-cracker like explosions on Kshipra has scared residents HAZARIBAG: The death toll due to the blasts caused by adulterated kerosene in Hazaribag district mounted to five on Tuesday late night after Urmila Devi (45), resident of Sekha village under Amnari panchayat, succumbed to her burn injuries at Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims). Hazaribag deputy commissioner Aditya Kumar Anand said, “Urmila worked at a hotel in Hazaribag after her husband died a few years ago in an accident. She is survived by her four children. Urmila had collected her quota of kerosene and on March 1, when she lit the stove, the oil exploded.”

Hazaribag: As many as 38 dealers of public distribution shop (PDS) have been found guilty in connection with the supply of adulterated kerosene to beneficiaries causing several instances of blasts in the recent weeks and killing at least four people and injuring over a dozen. In another incident on Monday night, a woman from Sakhiya village under Amnari Panchayat of sadar block sustained grievous injuries in a similar blast. She is currently undergoing treatment at Rims in Ranchi. Deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan on Tuesday said their ongoing probe into the blasts is almost over and action will be initiated soon. He said, “We have found 38 PDS dealers in addition to a wholesaler company Army Trading Company guilty in the whole episode. We have kept the licenses of the 38 dealers on hold till the entire investigation is over.”

Hazaribag: A 35-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son from Amnari village in Hazaribag’s Sadar block succumbed to their injuries sustained while lighting up a lantern at their home on February 14 using adulterated kerosene oil bought from the local PDS shop. They both died on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi. “Savita Devi died late on Saturday while her son Ayush Kumar passed away on Sunday morning,” Hazaribag DC Aditya Kumar Anand said. They were initially admitted to Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH) and later referred to Rims after their condition worsened.
