Grand Island man accused of hate crime

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WKBW) â A Grand Island man is facing a hate crime charge after allegedly targeting an African American victim with racially motivated harassment.
According to the Erie County Sheriff s Office, Timothy Knight Jr., 33, was sending threatening messages containing racial overtones and epithets for several weeks. Investigators did not reveal how these messages were allegedly sent.
Knight was arrested on Monday and charged with 2nd-degree hate crime/aggravated harassment, which is a felony.
Knight was processed and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WOIO) - The U.S. Marshals Service, along with the Sandusky Police Department and the Erie County Sheriffâs Office, arrested 49-year-old sex offender Curtis Young on East Market Street in Sandusky, OH., Friday.
Young is charged with failing to register as a sex offender. Young, a resident of Florida, was found to be living in Sandusky, OH, and did not registered as a sex offender with the Erie County Sheriffâs Office, according to the press release from the Federal Marshalâs office.

BUFFALO, N.Y. The Erie County Sheriff s Office will be hosting several free car seat safety checks this spring for any parents or guardians who need a little help.
Due to social distancing and safety measures, a limited number of car seats will be checked, according to the Sheriff s Office. Anyone who plans on attending one of the events is asked to practice COVID-19 safety protocols.
The Erie County Sheriff s Office has arrested a woman who is now accused of causing a deadly accident while impaired by a drug in January.
Jessica A. Novak, 37, of Akron was arrested by deputies Tuesday evening and arraigned in Clarence Town Court on one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, one count of Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree, and one count of Reckless Driving. The first two charges are felonies.
Prosecutors have charged 37-year-old Jessica Novak in a deadly crash that happened in Clarence on January 19.

Investigators believe Novak was operating a vehicle during the afternoon of January 19, 2021, which traveled at a high rate of speed along Main Street in the Town of Clarence. Police allege Novak s vehicle crossed into the turning lane and struck another that was turning on to Goodrich Road. The driver of the second vehicle, 65-year-old Jeanette Helms of Clarence, was fatally injured.
