Akron woman charged in deadly Clarence crash

The Erie County Sheriff s Office has arrested a woman who is now accused of causing a deadly accident while impaired by a drug in January. Jessica A. Novak, 37, of Akron was arrested by deputies Tuesday evening and arraigned in Clarence Town Court on one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, one count of Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree, and one count of Reckless Driving. The first two charges are felonies. Prosecutors have charged 37-year-old Jessica Novak in a deadly crash that happened in Clarence on January 19. Credit Erie County District Attorney s Office Investigators believe Novak was operating a vehicle during the afternoon of January 19, 2021, which traveled at a high rate of speed along Main Street in the Town of Clarence. Police allege Novak s vehicle crossed into the turning lane and struck another that was turning on to Goodrich Road. The driver of the second vehicle, 65-year-old Jeanette Helms of Clarence, was fatally injured. 

Father charged with murder in 2019 infant death

The Erie County District Attorney s Office announced Wednesday that a Buffalo man has been charged in the 2019 death of his infant son. Reginald J. Jordan, 37, is charged with one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of First Degree Manslaughter. If convicted, Jordan faces 25 years in prison. Police say they answered a call of a child not breathing at a home on Grote Street. It was there they found six-month-old King Jordan. The child was taken to Oishei Children s Hospital, where he died two days later.

Terminated state trooper gets 1 year for rape

Credit Erie County District Attorney s Office On Dec. 9, Lanning pleaded guilty to a felony third degree rape charge and two misdemeanor counts of criminal impersonation. He admitted to engaging in sexual relations with a female victim without her consent in the summer of 2016 in Depew, and to falsely representing himself as a state trooper to gain trust and personal information from two other female victims in September 2019. Lannen is a former New York State trooper who was terminated in 2010. The judge also issued orders of protection on behalf of the victims. Tags:
