Allen and I visited Death Valley National Park in mid-March, when it was a comfortable 80 degrees at Badwater Basin (elevation 282 feet below sea level).
We walked a half-mile into the basin then returned to the car to continue our adventures in the vast park.
I kept Death Valley on my weather app, just so I could look at on days like this. Todayâs high there is expected to be 126. It will âcool downâ overnight to 99 degrees. That makes temperatures here in the Grand Valley â 106ish in the day, 70ish overnight â a bit more tolerable, right?
So, how do you like your eggs cooked on the sidewalk? Fried or scrambled?

A Wildfire continued to blaze California as another heatwave will strike the western region of the U.S. this weekend. Firefighters continue to face a surging wildfire in the Beckwourth Complex, which erupted from two flashes of lightning, Al Jazeera reported.
There were no current reports of building damage in the area. However, the fire prompted evacuations orders or warnings for about 2,800 people. The fire also prompted the closure of nearly 200 square miles of Plumas National Forest.

Firefighters had a horrific fire in northern California under intense temperatures as another heat wave hit the western United States over the weekend, warning of excessive heat for inland and desert areas.
California’s Death Valley National Park, about 177 kilometers (110 miles) west of Las Vegas in the state of Nevada, recorded a height of 54 Celsius (130 Fahrenheit) on Friday and was expected to reach the same temperature on Saturday.
If verified, the temperature reading would be the warmest altitude recorded since July 1913, when the same area of the Furnace Creek Desert hit 57C (134F), due to the highest temperature reliably measured on earth.
