If you visit the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s website these days, you may see an image of a smiling teenager in front of a yellow backdrop with the words: “WE’RE READY to welcome you back to the classroom!” The school board recently announced its reopening plans for the September 2021 school year, although “reopening” may be a stretch.
The 2021-2022 plan for high school students consists of a start to the year with all restrictions still in place, and the faint hope of some restrictions being “incrementally lifted” over the course of the school year. There are no actual guarantees that anything will be different; the OCDSB literally uses the word “hope” in most of its “reopening” bullet points.
