Reply Illinois American Water to Conduct Annual Water System Maintenance Program in Des Plaines (Provided by Illinois American Water ) Beginning June 8, 2021, maintenance of the fire hydrant system in Des Plaines will occur and continue throughout the Fall. During this period, fire hydrants will be evaluated for functionality, repaired when necessary, and flushed. The process of periodically flushing hydrants is essential in identifying fire hydrants in need of repair and maintaining optimal water quality throughout the potable water distribution system. Through the discharge of water from the fire hydrant(s), water flow rates are increased to provide a scouring effect that removes mineral deposits that may accumulate in the water main. Illinois American Water Completes Water Tank Improvement in Bolingbrook   Updated 5/14/2021 11:42 AM Illinois American Water is finishing improvements to a water tank located near the cross streets of King Drive and 115th street in Bolingbrook as part of a statewide effort to upgrade water storage units in Illinois. Last year, water tanks across the state including in communities such as Champaign, Pontiac, Peoria and Shiloh received face lifts, totaling an investment of approximately $3.7 million. The Bolingbrook tank is a 3,000,000-gallon ground storage tank and the work is expected to be completed next week. The investment included an overcoating on the outside of the storage tank and spot welding and coating on the interior floor. New logos were also added to the exterior of the tank. The total investment is approximately $463,000.
