IDNR Announces 2021 Habitat Fund Project Grants SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today announced the approval of $958,096 in grants for seven wildlife habitat projects through the Illinois Habitat Fund Special Wildlife Funds Grant Program. The program provides for enhancing game and non-game wildlife habitat through projects developed by not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities. Funding for the Illinois Habitat Fund Special Wildlife Funds Grant Program comes from the sale of Habitat Stamps. The Illinois Habitat Fund Advisory Committee approved $958,096 in funding for the seven projects outlined below: • Forest Preserve District of Will County (FPDWC) Braidwood Dunes, Savanna Nature Preserve, Sand Ridge Savanna NP and Kankakee Sands – This project will fund habitat restoration activities such as controlling nonnative invasive species to create large blocks of contiguous prairie and remnant savanna. EDWARDSVILLE Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Biological Sciences Professors Rick Essner, PhD, and Peter Minchin, PhD, utilized a Meridian Society grant to install informational signs in Bohm Woods Nature Preserve, an old growth forest across from campus, on Saturday morning, Jan. 23. Local Boy Scout Adrian Hall, of Troop 216, installed a new entrance sign and several interpretive signs for his Eagle Scout project. Fellow scout Connor Coolbaugh previously built and installed an informational kiosk at the site.

In 2019, Godfrey applied for an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to construct the first phase of the expansion of Glazebrook Park. The project includes three athletic fields, a splash pad, a concession stand/bathrooms, a fishing pier, fitness equipment, pavilions, a playground and walking trail, along with about 500 parking stalls and access roads. The state is awarding Godfrey $400,000 toward the project, half which has already been received and is being held until the completion of the project when a reimbursement request can be made for the remaining $200,000.

IDNR to reopen select historic sites Canton Daily Ledger SPRINGFIELD The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today announced select state historic sites will reopen to the public effective Tuesday, Jan. 26. All sites open to the public will return to staffing levels prior to their closure. Sites in regions 4 and 7 of the Restore Illinois plan, including Fort de Chartres, Fort Kaskaskia, Cahokia Mounds and Lewis & Clark, will remain closed until further notice. Historic sites will continue to follow Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines regarding tier mitigations released by the Office of the Governor Jan. 15: • Guided interpretive tour groups will be limited to 10 people or less, will be socially distanced and will follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines;
