Five COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Madison County Friday and Saturday, bringing the total to 334.
A man in his 90s was reported deceased on Saturday by the department, following its report of four deaths a man in his 70s and women in their 60s, 70s and 90s late Friday. Sunday’s figures were not available at presstime.
The county also reported 334 new confirmed and probably COVID-19 cases on Friday and 265 on Saturday. Tests totaled 1,713 on Friday and 1,263 on Saturday, for a total of 177,419 tests to date.
On Friday, the department was reporting 78 COVID-19 patients in county hospitals with nine on ventilators. Patient numbers rose to 83 on Saturday with no change in ventilator usage.

The Iowa Department of Public Health on Saturday was reporting no additional COVID-19 deaths and an additional 1,871 confirmed cases.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the state was reporting 3,451 COVID-19-related deaths the same number since the state s tally at 10 a.m. Friday and Thursday, according to the state s website.
COVID-19 is the disease caused by the coronavirus.
For two days, the state has not reported any additional deaths, with the count remaining at 3,451. The state has not reported any Iowans having died from the virus since Dec. 13, though there is a lag between the person dying and the death being confirmed and reported by IDPH as COVID-19-related.
