Final preparations underway for funeral for fallen State Police Trooper Todd Hanneken Mourners waving American flags lined the route through Mount Zion and Long Creek, with fire trucks and other vehicles blocking intersections. The 15-mile procession lasted several minutes.  A private service is being held at Mount Zion Township Cemetery.  Our earlier story .  Hanneken The school building will be the site of a funeral for fallen State Police Trooper Todd Hanneken. Representatives of various law enforcement agencies are staged around the school assisting with the service. Traffic flow in the area is restricted. A graduate of Mount Zion High School, Hanneken, 45, of Long Creek, died March 25 when his squad car collided into a utility pole and a tree on Illinois 10 in Bondville. Hanneken was on patrol but State Police said he was not responding to a call and there appeared to be no signs of foul play. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Quincy Memorial Bridge closes April 12

STAFF REPORT WEST QUINCY, Mo. — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the Quincy Memorial Bridge on eastbound U.S. 24 will close for repairs April 12. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the Bayview Bridge on westbound U.S. 24 during the closure. The Bayview Bridge will be posted with a maximum width of 14 feet during the closure of the Memorial Bridge, which is expected to last until Nov. 30. This $7.25 million project consists of resurfacing the bridge deck, joint replacements and repairs, painting, structural steel repairs, lighting replacement and repairs and other miscellaneous work. Benefits from the project include providing a smoother road surface, installing safety equipment and needed maintenance to the structure. IDOT is currently reviewing long-term plans for replacing the Quincy Memorial Bridge and will be seeking input at a public meeting to be held later in 2021.

IDOT did not give a reason for the postponement. When the closing takes place, work to be done will include resurfacing the bridge deck, joint replacements and repairs, painting, structural steel repairs, and lighting replacement and repairs. The $7.25 million dollar project is scheduled to close Memorial Bridge for seven months.
