EFFINGHAM - The Illinois Department of Transportation has launched a new website to inform the public about the reconstruction and widening of Fayette Avenue (U.S. 40/U.S. 45/Illinois 33) through Effingham. The $27 million project, made possible by Gov. JB Pritzker s historic and bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital program, will increase capacity and improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians while creating good-paying jobs and long-term economic opportunity. This website is part of our commitment at IDOT to working with the community during the land acquisition process and while construction is ongoing, said Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. The Fayette Avenue improvements are long overdue, but could not proceed until funding was identified through

Some city officials believe a car-centric business proposed for the northeast corner might make it too busy.
Club Car Wash intends to open another Peoria outlet at 1217 W. Glen Ave. Currently, the site is home to the GlenHaven strip mall.
Among businesses there are a Chinese restaurant, a Mediterranean grocery and a computer-repair facility. A possible increase of in-and-out traffic concerns Mike Wiesehan, chairman of the city Planning and Zoning Commission.
“Is it the best thing for that corner? I don’t know,” he said about the car wash. “I feel there could be a better use for this.”
During a meeting earlier this month, the commission voted 4-2 to recommend the City Council approve land-use changes that would allow car wash construction. Wiesehan and commissioner George Ghareeb voted against it.

An effort to advance Glazebook Park improvements led to a discussion about sewers and stormwater.
In 2019, Godfrey applied for an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to construct the first phase of the expansion of Glazebrook Park. The project includes three athletic fields, a splash pad, a concession stand/bathrooms, a fishing pier, fitness equipment, pavilions, a playground and walking trail, along with about 500 parking stalls and access roads.
The state is awarding Godfrey $400,000 toward the project, half which has already been received and is being held until the completion of the project when a reimbursement request can be made for the remaining $200,000.

EDWARDSVILLE Several road-related projects moved forward after action by the Madison County Board at Wednesday’s regular meeting.
The board approved a letter of understanding to participate with the Illinois Department of Transportation in the improvement of Illinois 159 from the Macoupin County Line to a point .3 miles north of Illinois 140, and a portion of Moro Road.
Also approved was an agreement/funding resolution for Phase 2 of Wood River Avenue in East Alton.
The county is providing $125,000 for the project, which begins at Second Street extending north to Third Street, and includes pavement removal and replacement, store sewers, curbs and gutters, and sidewalks.
