The Public Is Invited To Comment On IDOT Work on Route 146 in Johnson County

0:50 Between now and May 17th the public is encouraged to learn about, and comment on plans to improve Illinois 146 in Johnson County.  Carrie Nelson, with the Illinois Department of Transportation says the work will involve widening 146 from the Vienna  City park to the junction of Red Bud Lane and Old Metropolis Road.   Nelson says they ve heard concerns about safety in that area. District 16 announces May safety checks Source: Illinois State Police District 16 PECATONICA Illinois State Police District 16 recently announced that it will conduct roadside safety checks during May in Winnebago County. The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois. Officers working the detail will be on alert for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages and driving under the influence.  Officers will watch for safety belt and child restraint violations, speeding violations and distracted driving.  Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. RSCs are designed to keep DUI offenders off the road.

ASSOCIATED PRESS SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois officially placed the James R. Thompson Center that houses state government offices in downtown Chicago up for sale, state officials said Monday. Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Central Management Services took a step that has been in the works for years. Illinois officials have argued the 17-story building designed by celebrated architect Helmut Jahn is a drain on state finances because it s inefficient to operate and in need of hundreds of millions of dollars in repairs. Selling the property provides a unique opportunity to maximize taxpayer savings, create thousands of union jobs, generate millions of dollars in real estate taxes to benefit the City of Chicago and spur economic development, Pritzker said in a news release.

Decatur Police Department Announces Distracted Driving Enforcement Results The Decatur Police Department announced it issued 23 hands-free cell phone citations during the April distracted driving enforcement period. “We strongly enforce distracted driving laws for one reason – to save lives,” said Sgt. Steve Hagemeyer. “Choose to drive distracted, and you’ll have a phone in one hand and a ticket in the other.” The Decatur Police Department joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners for this enforcement effort. Using your phone in anything other than hands-free mode in Illinois is not only dangerous, it is illegal. The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
