Bryant: Indicted Choate Administrators Should Be On Leave

A southern Illinois lawmaker says the three administrators from Choate Mental Health and Rehabilitation Center are still on the job - and she wants to change that. State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) says Bryant Davis, Teresa Smith, and Gary Goins should all be on administrative leave. She says Official Misconduct - a Class 3 Felony - is too serious for the Illinois Department of Human Services to look the other way. When those kind of charges are there, it s really unconscionable to leave them in the facility. So, we all want to make sure that the residents there are cared for - that they re protected. And sometimes that protection is making sure that we get the bad actors out.

Sen Bryant demands Choate Mental Health place indicted employees on leave

Investigators sent indictments to employees Bryant T. Davis, Teresa A. Smith and Gary K. Goins this week. In a news release Wednesday, Bryant called it unconscionable that the three were actively working during an ongoing investigation. They have access to employees where they could influence statements that are being made by employees, Bryant told News 3 in a phone call Wednesday. The indictments stem from a pair of Illinois State Police investigations that led to the arrest of five employees in October 2020. A month later, ISP arrested Smith. On Monday, the Union County State s Attorney s office indicted Davis, Goins and Smith each on official misconduct, a class 3 felony. Smith received an additional obstruction of justice charge, a class 4 felony.

Pritzker announces more financial assistance for families seeking childcare

Pritzker announces more financial assistance for families seeking childcare By Kennedy Hayes Pritzker says 80-percent of families will pay less for childcare under the new changes. When I took office, I said that we are aiming to make Illinois the best state in the nation for families raising young children. Today, I’m proud to announce another important step in that direction. We are making a series of new investments to make childcare more affordable for Illinois families, and deliver more dollars to providers, Pritzker said in a statement. We’re ensuring quality childcare is accessible for more people – allowing more people to return to work without worry about where their kids will go during the day and helping Illinois’ childcare network rebuild after the last 16 months.
