Trump s ICE Promises Transparency on Huge OPT Visa Program in 2021

15 Jan 2021 The Department of Homeland Security is promising to issue a detailed report about the roughly 500,000 white-collar jobs that are transferred from American graduates to foreigners via the huge university-backed Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, which is often described as the younger version of the H-1B program. The agency “is currently unable to evaluate the impact OPT has had on U.S. workers and foreign students who have obtained work authorization through the programs,” said a January 13 message from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program within the  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. “To remedy this, SEVP is announcing the development of a new unit the OPT Employment Compliance Unit that will be dedicated full-time to compliance matters involving wage, hours, and compensation … the first report will be published on ICE.gov by July 31, 2021,” said the statement. Gospel festival at Illinois Wesleyan taking place virtually

Pontiac Daily Leader BLOOMINGTON –– The 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday Gospel Festival will take place, virtually, on Monday, Jan. 18. The festival will be streamed live via Illinois Wesleyan University’s YouTube channel (www.iwu.edu/gospelfest) from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Due to the ongoing pandemic, videos of performances and speakers were submitted and edited together into the two-hour presentation, which will also be made available to watch on-demand. Presented by Illinois Wesleyan University and the United Community Gospel Singers of Bloomington-Normal, the festival honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who spoke at Illinois Wesleyan in 1961 and returned to the University to speak in 1966 after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. The festival was founded in 1991 by the late Corine Sims and her husband, the Rev. James Sims, with Illinois Wesleyan and the United Community Gospel Singers as co-founders.
