Covid-19 Australia: Student forced to live of $20 a week after losing both his jobs

A Sydney University student has been forced to live off $20 a week after the government s financial Covid benefits left him with very little support. The 19-year-old, whose identity has been withheld for privacy reasons, moved out of his parents house in February this year after landing a spot in the university s Bachelor of Health Science degree.  He moved into a shared flat in the inner-city suburb of Rozelle and got two jobs, one as a waiter and the other as a bartender to support himself.  A young Sydney University student is living off just $20 per week due to the Covid-19 pandemic and government benefits (stock image)

Training occupational therapists in Territory

CDU CDU Occupational Therapy Course Coordinator Nicole O’Reilly says qualified professionals are in high demand. A new occupational therapy program being run at Charles Darwin University (CDU) for the first time is set to drive much-needed professionals into the Northern Territory’s allied health sector. The Occupational Therapy Program was established after two years of planning with dedicated staff since October 2020, marking a new era in CDU’s allied health portfolio and a milestone for the Northern Territory’s health services. The postgraduate program will equip students with field-ready skills through the 1,000 hours of practical education and online learning supplemented by intensives throughout the course.

A gifted korowai and family from Australia among highlights for graduates

Harry Weise (l), Karlos Tui, Olivia Mellor-Killalea and Pita Tonga were excited to graduate in 2021. Beginning a whānau tradition with a korowai and having family arrive from Australia with the opening of the travel bubble the day before graduation, were just some of the extra special moments for the nearly 800 graduates who celebrated in Wellington on Tuesday. For some, the wait for graduation had been extra-long after choosing to defer last year because of the first Covid-19 lockdown. That was the case for four friends who were due to graduate in 2020: Harry Weise - Third Class Honours with a major in Visual Communication Design, Karlos Tui - Bachelor of Design, Olivia Mellor-Killalea - Honours with a Major in Visual Communication Design and Pita Tonga - Second Class Honours, with a major in Visual Communication Design.
