Church Hill, leading from Hoe Street to Prospect was once known as Parsonage Hill, and was where the Rectory Manor house once stood in Walthamstow. In 1784-5 a large three storey house was built on the opposite side of the road, later known as Church Hill House. It was a typical gentleman’s red brick house, and was set in large gardens with an orchard, and meadlowland bounded by Hoe Street to the west and to where St Mary’s Road is today to the south. In the early 19th century the house was one of the residences of the Sims family who also owned a house in London Street. The Sims were actively involved with slavery in Jamaica; merchant John Sims had owned the Holland Estate in Trelawney, and his daughter Frances married James William Freshfield, founder of legal firm Freshfields who had plantation owners amongst their clients, and were involved in later compensation claims. YMCA Engages Youths on War Crimes, Justice Issues

Liberian youth participants at the Civic Peace Service project engagement meeting organized by YMCA. The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), under the program “The Civic Peace Service Project (CPS) has concluded a one day youth engagement forum aimed at providing information on the past to promotes discussion of peaceful future, prevention of violence and justice. The one-day event, which took place on April 29, 2021, brought together more than 25 young people including students to discuss their rights and interest in a non-violent manner to assume their rightful place in society. The CPS, a civic engagement session, was held under the theme, “War Crimes and Justice”.

At a time when China was impoverished and bullied by Western powers, Li encouraged Chinese youth to fight for a better future, lighting a beacon of hope for building a stronger China for the Chinese people. In the winter of 1913, Li graduated from the former Beiyang Special School of Law before furthering his studies in Japan. In September 1914, he formally began his studies of political economy at Waseda.

Corbin, Percy C (1888–1952) – Encyclopedia Virginia

Percy Casino Corbin was born in Athens, Texas, on June 2, 1888. He was the son of Edward Corbin and Priscilla Wright Corbin. He grew up on the family farm and received his early education in public schools in Athens and nearby Corsicana before enrolling in a private institution in El Paso in order to prepare for studying medicine. Corbin attended the medical school at Howard University, in Washington, D.C., for one year and then transferred to the Leonard School of Medicine at Shaw University, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He received an MD in 1911. Corbin opened a medical practice in Salem, Virginia, with a roommate from medical school, but in 1913 he moved to the town of Pulaski. Settling there afforded him the opportunity to serve a rural community in need of medical care and also made good business sense, as there were no other African American doctors in the area. On October 31, 1914, he married Evelyn Carrie Linscom, an El Paso native who had also attended Shaw University. They
