WATERS: Kentucky not growing up to its potential

How can Kentucky still be trailing competitor states in population growth? It’s not like we as a state are stuck in some out-of-the-way region with poor access to roads and attractive sites for development and growth. Most Kentuckians live and do business within a day’s drive of 60% of the entire U.S. population. Both Interstates 75 and 65 are among the nation’s most heavily traveled north-south corridors. U-Haul’s parent company, AMERCO Real Estate, bought the nearly 85,000-square-foot former Shopko store for $2.25 million, according to state real estate transaction records. Winona County Recorder Bob Bambenek said the sale followed an online auction. The property was previously owned by a Michigan-based holding company. “Our plan is to create a full-service U-Haul retail and self-storage facility at 405 Cottonwood Drive,” U-Haul Company of Southern Minnesota President Chris Bohlman wrote in an email. “Our full-service stores often include an expansive, remodeled retail showroom; indoor climate-controlled self-storage units with high-tech security features; towing
