Within Cal State Fullertonâs Communications Department is a hard working senior, studying for a degree with an emphasis in advertising. But what her classmates probably donât know when they meet her is that she is a human trafficking survior.Â
Jennelle Gordon founded the nonprofit organization, Beyond Freedom, to help women like herself get back on their feet after they have escaped or been rescued.Â
Having been trafficked for 10 years herself, starting at the age of 19, Gordon felt like she did not have the resources to heal after such a traumatic experience. Consequently, she created Beyond Freedom to bridge the gap between female survivors and the resources that should be available to assist them in recovery.
After nearly 10 years in operation, Cal State Fullertonâs Irvine Campus will officially close its doors at the end of June.Â
The property is in the process of being sold after the university faced financial challenges after losing a lessee and found limited use for it during the virtual semester. The decision to place the property on the market instead of continuing to pay for its empty occupation was announced today by CSUFâs Office of the President in a statement. Â
âDespite these efforts, due to the size and cost of maintaining the Irvine Center, it has been challenging for the university to utilize the property to the fullest extent,â the message read.Â
