By ANNE GEARAN | The Washington Post | Published: April 17, 2021 WASHINGTON The current Iran nuclear talks mark a defining moment for President Joe Biden and the new, less-cozy relationship that is shaping up between Biden and Israel, its longtime leader and its American supporters. Biden campaigned on a pledge to return to the Iran deal, which was brokered by former president Barack Obama over the fierce objections of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But until the talks began this month, it was not clear how either leader would handle their differences of opinion, or what they portended for an alliance already in flux.
US and Iran to join talks aimed at rejoining nuclear deal
April 16, 2021
(JTA) Iran and the United States will join talks in Vienna next week that aim to return all parties to the terms of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
There will not be direct contact between Iran and the United States at the in-person meeting, according to a European Union statement issued after a virtual meeting Thursday of the countries left in the deal China, Russia, Iran, Britain, Germany and France.
Instead, a coordinator will make “separate contacts” with “all JCPOA participants and the United States.”
The Trump administration pulled the United States out of the deal in 2018.
