President Joe Biden has voiced his support of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel but fell short of demanding one during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has further escalated as the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed more than 200 deaths, while 10 Israelis have died in the worst conflict between the two sides since 2014.
President Biden held his second phone call with Mr Netanyahu during the conflict and encouraged Israel to ensure the protection of civilians.
The White House released a statement about the discussions in which President Biden expressed his “support for a cease” but did not explicitly call for one.

United Nations Security Council members condemned the violence in the Middle East during an emergency session Sunday but failed to agree on a unified position after China accused the U.S. of blocking a joint statement, the Wall Street Journal reported.
This is the third time that the US blocked the UN statement.
“Regrettably, simply because of the obstruction of one country, the Security Council hasn’t been able to speak with one voice,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during the virtual meeting. “We call upon the United States to shoulder its due responsibilities of taking a just position,” the WSJ quoted Yi as saying.
