Deputy Chief of the IRGC Quds Force General Mohammad Hejazi has passed away after years of suffering from the effects of chemical weapons used during the Iraqi war of the 1980s on Iran, IRGC spokesman Ramazan Sharif says.
“This honorable martyr had been exposed to chemical agents during the Sacred Defense and had been suffering from the effects. He also contracted the coronavirus a few months ago, from which he recovered,” Sharif said Monday.
Military authorities, however, decided to cancel march-pasts in compliance with the coronavirus restrictions.
The Army’s air defense division unveiled three domestically-developed missile systems, including Zolfaqar low-altitude missile system that enjoys great mobility and can connect to electro-optic systems.
Majid missile system used for intercepting and downing low-altitude targets as well as cruise missiles, and Khatam artillery fire control system capable of striking various aerial targets at low altitudes were showcased as well.
Damavand strategic and long-range system, which is used for downing various aircraft as well as cruise and ballistic missiles, was also displayed.
Ahead of the ceremonies, a message from Leader of Iran s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was read out, in which he extolled the contributions the Army has made to ensuring the security of the country.

Iran’s Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, said Thursday no foreign warships would dare enter its territorial waters because of the nation’s seaborne superiority, promising a “grinding response” awaits any intruders that tried.
The claim follows a similar boast of military superioity made last month by Major General Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), who said Iran has such military strength and experience in dynamic modern warfare no enemy can even dream of beating it.
